Hi all! Thank you so much for joining me for this online writing workshop. These times are.... well, they're wild, and I'm honored and very grateful to connect with each of you in this way. We'll begin formally on April 13th, but registration for the course opens April 5th and folks are welcome to begin introducing themselves here as soon as they like. Registration for this class is by donation. If you still need to register, you can do so here. To create a profile for yourself on this platform, please click the Sign Up button in the top right of this screen.
If we haven't met before, my name is Tessa Cheek -- I'm a writer living in Ridgway, Colorado. When I'm not writing from home, I'm helping out at the Bluecorn Beeswax candle factory or serving on Ridgway's Town Council and Planning Commission.
Each day I'll be reaching out to you with a digitally accessible artwork to consider and a writing prompt to get your creative response going. This quarantine has me a bit stir-crazy (I'm sure I'm the only one) so I've made a concerted effort to bring you all artworks that aren't just inspiring but diverse, both in media/form and content. We'll respond to musical compositions, film, photography and more.
In this intro section I'd love for participants to share an artwork that has inspired them lately. I'd like to share a very timely podcast that I think beautifully weaves sound and story. This podcast is also all about perception, really looking at the world around us and trusting in what is revealed. Coincidentally, that's also what this class is all about! If you have time, I'd love for you to give all or part of it a listen (bonus points for doing so outdoors, if safe and possible): Listen Here.
Other than that, I look forward to learning more about you, what brought you to this class and an artwork that has inspired you below. I also look forward to reading and writing with you starting April 13!
Dear Marlys, So wonderful to see you here (and much love to the fam)! I'm so take with your line and image -- hand feeding sparrows. I've been feeling a bit distracted, too, when it comes to writing. I'm hoping bringing our collective focus to these artworks and to each other will help. I couldn't be happier to have you along for the ride! Just looked up Egon Schiele and am so enthralled..... Big hugs! Tessa
Right away, a challenge! Once I wrote with ease, but now words scatter when I try to pin them down, like hand feeding sparrows. I'm pretty old; I've been a nurse and a mom and a hanger-on in the world of children's literature. I took up pottery a couple of years ago, so I could make something besides bad dinner. I don't know art, but have been drawn to the works of Egon Schiele.
Thank you so much for sharing this podcast. So beautiful! I'm so excited to begin this workshop anticipating (patiently) what will be revealed.
