Floyd has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan where he, also, lettered in football.
He has been painting for thirty years primarily in pastels. He has been painting his impressions of western cattle and ranch land for the fifteen years.

The scenes for his painting are found around Ridgway, Colorado near the San Juan and Cimarron Mountains. The cows are beef cattle raised above 7,000 feet in the Uncompahgre River valley and in the National Forests above that valley.

The paintings are set in both the high country and the Uncompahgre valley in all four seasons. Floyd’s favorite season is the Fall because of the colorful yellow and orange background presented by the Aspen trees against the bright sunny blue sky.
